BENEDICT XVI, ISLAM MEETING: “WORKING TOGETHER TO AVOID INTOLERANCE AND VIOLENCE”(2)

” ““The lessons of the past – went on the Pontiff – cannot but help us look for ways of reconciliation, because, in the respect of everyone’s identity and freedom, we give life to a fruitful collaboration at the service of the whole humankind”. Benedict XVI said “he is deeply convinced that, in the state in which the world is today, it is imperative for Christians and Muslims to work hard to face together the many challenges which are thrown at humankind, especially in the area of the defence and promotion of the dignity of the human being and the ensuing rights. While threats against man and against peace are growing, by reasserting the centrality of the person and working tirelessly for human life to be always respected, Christians and Muslims reveal their obedience to the Maker, who wants all human beings to live with that dignity that He has given them”. “Dear friends – he concluded – I deeply wish the Merciful God will guide our steps along the paths of a mutual and increasingly true understanding”. As he greeted his guests, the Pope gave them “heart-felt wishes” for the month of Ramadan.
