The migratory phenomenon is “the consequence of an unfair situation of poverty and underdevelopment that mostly affects the young, who venture out on the conquest of the European ‘dream’, hoping to escape their poverty and the poverty of their families”: this was repeated by the fifty participants in the annual meeting of the national directors for the pastoral of migrants in Europe, promoted by the Council of the European Bishops Conferences (Ccee), which ended yesterday in Siguenza, Spain. The participants, coming from 25 European Bishops Conferences, appealed to the responsibilities of the EU countries, the UN, the Council of Europe and the EU, to “establish more effective policies for aiding the development of the poor countries, with more control over the trafficking of human beings”. As to the EU countries, the participants asked “that the serious deficiencies in the reception policies should be overcome, in order to avoid the painful events that have occurred to some young immigrants”. About the subject of migration, a press conference will be held in Brussels on 3th october, promoted by Comece, the Commission of the EU Bishops Conferences.
