EUROPE: THE FIFTH MOBILITY WEEK ENDS TOMORROW

” “The fifth “European Mobility Week” ends tomorrow. It is taking place from 16 to 22 September 2006 in the whole continent, with the aim of promoting a vigorous debate among citizens about the urgent need to change one’s behaviours in relation to mobility, and in particular, of limiting the use of private cars. Tomorrow will be the final day, and in this perspective, the international day “In town, without my car!” will be celebrated. 1,284 European towns are taking part in the Mobility Week, launched by the European Commission DG Environment, through several initiatives. Tomorrow, 1,275 towns are taking part in the car free town day, on foot or by bicycle. The subject of the 2006 seven day event, “Climatic change – one of the main challenges faced by the world”, is written in a note by the organizers, a partnership between Eurocities Consortium, Energie-Citès, Climate Alliance, the people in charge of the European competent national ministries, agencies and associations and the European Commission.
