BENEDICT XVI IN GERMANY: VESPERS AT REGENSBURG, "BECOMING SIGHTED TO GIVE TESTIMONY". FAITH AS THE STRENGTH OF LOVE (2)

” “According to the Pope, today "only through the meeting with Jesus Christ does life become real life". "Being a witness of Jesus Christ mainly means", therefore, "to be the witness of a given way of life". "In a world full of confusion – explained Benedict XVI – we must give our testimony, once again, of the guidance that makes a life a real life. This important task, shared by all the believers, we must tackle with great determination: it is the Christians’ responsibility, at this time, to give prominence to that guidance of a fair living that has become clear to us in Jesus Christ". Agape-love is the third word emphasised by the Holy Father. "Agape – he said – does not mean anything sentimental or exciting; it is something totally moderate and realistic". In other words, "the agape (love) is really a synthesis of the Law and the Prophets. It ‘enwraps’ everything; an ‘everything’, though, that in daily life must always be ‘unwrapped’". "In love man can believe", went on the Pope as he mentioned verse 16 of the I Letter of Saint John, in which "is the wonderful word: ‘We have believed in love’". "Let’s testify our faith – he concluded – so that it looks like the strength of love, ‘for the world to believe’". ” “
