BENEDICT XVI IN GERMANY: VESPERS AT REGENSBURG, THE COMMITMENT TO BEING "UNITED" FOR "THE WORLD TO BELIEVE"

” “"Gratitude" for the opportunity to "pray together": it was expressed tonight, during the celebration of the Vespers in the Cathedral of Regensburg, before Orthodox Christians, Catholics and Protestants, by Benedict XVI, who highlighted that "in our speaking to the Lord, we can at the same time grow in unity between us". After recalling that, when he was a professor in Bonn, "he learnt about and loved the Orthodox Church", the Pope highlighted that "in a few days, the theological dialogue about the fundamental subject of koinonia", in the sense of communion with God that in turn creates communion among men, "will reopen in Belgrade". "I hope and pray that these talks – added the Holy Father – will bear fruit and that communion with the living God that unites us, like the communion among us handed down by the Apostles, will become deeper and riper", up to a full unity. "For the world to believe", explained Benedict XVI, "we must be united: the seriousness of this commitment must inspire our talks".” “
