“As to the actual normalisation noticed father Malek a lot has changed”. But, in his opinion, "we expect too much, miracles that are not going to happen”, such as, for instance, "that the situation of bishops, priests, nuns may significantly improve, that the Church in China may become a proactive, full member of the universal Church or that the local Churches, congregations or organisations may be able to work and cooperate with the Chinese Church”. If, after the "normalisation", the Holy See sends a nuncio or a delegate to China, "there will certainly be some change in formal relations he said -, but this doesn’t mean the basic attitude towards the Catholic Church as a whole will dramatically change”. According to the historian, "the issue of the appointment of the bishops is likely to be settled one way or other”, along with that "of the diocesan territories and the church property”, and the "seminaries could obtain an official status”. It will not be easy, instead, to tackle the issues of "the education of priests, seminarians and nuns”, while "the relations between the leaders of the official and unofficial churches might even get worse following Rome’s decisions”. Therefore, according to father Malek, “we have to train as many people as possible on China and for China, as a prerequisite and in preparation to formal normalisation", so that "the Church will not miss out again" on this opportunity for evangelisation.
