"We must not underestimate the fact that today Turkey has an Islamist government for the first time since Ataturk. Using a great deal of intelligence and wit, they want to be European, but we should be on our guard against their behaviours and their “normalization” policies: we shouldn’t be too indulgent, and we shouldn’t make too many concessions". That was the comment expressed by Darko Tanasković, ambassador of Serbia at the Holy See, in Gazzada (Varese) today, about the initiative by the Turkish authorities to manipulate a few famous tales, such as the adventures of Pinocchio. "It is a falsification carried out in the name of truth added the diplomat during the European week about the ‘Religious History of Islam in the Balkans’, set up by Fondazione Ambrosiana Paolo VI and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan. – But this alleged truth is nothing but the truth they believe to be the sole guardians of, and in the name of such truth they think to have the right to intervene without any scruples, even in relation to subjects such as art and culture".
