HOLY SEE: MGR. CACCIA (SECRETARIAT OF STATE), “THANKS TO CARD. SODANO FOR HIS EXAMPLE”

“The Holy See, just because it is intimately bound up to the Successor of Peter, even when it acts in a diplomatic or social capacity, is never alien to the basic pastoral horizon of the Church. The goal is always the same: salvation”. This was said by mgr. Gabriele Giordano Caccia, Councillor for General Affairs at the Vatican Secretariat of State, as he presented the book written by the Secretary of State, card. Angelo Sodano. To accomplish its mission, the Church uses “different ways that lead to the same goal”. The Church, highlighted mgr. Caccia, “exists to evangelise”, and “awareness of such a delicate and important task must never fail in those who are called to work at the ‘heart’ of the Church next to the Vicar of Christ”. So, one when works at the service of the Pope, “one does not act as a ‘lonely knight’, spreading one’s own ideas and promoting one’s personal plans, but faithfulness to the Vicar of Christ is the criterion of every action and decision”. To card. Sodano, specified mgr. Caccia, “we are grateful, especially for this: for the example he set, the advice he lavished over these years on his collaborators and for the message he leaves us, a message that is all the more useful for those who are engaged in a unique ecclesial mission next to the Successor of Peter, a mission that the cardinal himself will keep sharing as a Dean of the College of Cardinals”.
