The Hungarian Bishops Conference condemned, in a release dated August 30th, the escalation, during the summer, of acts of "extreme nationalism” and “the atmosphere of violence in Slovakia" against the Hungarians who live there. The Hungarian bishops appreciate the statements made by two Slovakian bishops who spoke against the recent anti-Hungarian protests reports the Hungarian Catholic agency Magyar Kurir and repeat their "final condemnation of any type of protest instigating to hatred and violating the dignity of a nation”. “Hatred only begets hatred they state and the only possible solution is mutual love”. On June 29th, the Hungarian and Slovakian bishops signed a joint statement in which "they forgave and asked to be forgiven” for what happened. “We believe the two nations and the people in charge of them conclude the Hungarian bishops have opted for this way, because peace of the heart is the way to genuine reconciliation”.
