"I am sure over these days we have to take seriously the subject that we have chosen for our assembly", "The light of Christ enlightens everyone. Hope of renewal and unity in Europe": it was explained to SIR by mgr. Aldo Giordano, secretary general of Ccee (Council of European Bishops Conferences), with reference to the III European Ecumenical Assembly (Aee3), due in Sibiu (Romania) from 4th to 9th September. "Our contribution to the success of the meeting in Sibiu adds mgr. Giordano depends on our ability of reading the different problems that we face in the light that comes from the Gospel. If over these days we meet Christ and live the love that He has taken onto earth, we will have something to tell about: we might tell that something new happened here in Sibiu". The Aee3 of Sibiu, in a country where the majority of the population are Orthodox, is promoted by Ccee and Kek (Conference of European Churches), after the first two assemblies held in Basel and Graz. About 2,500 delegates of the European Churches will thus be invited to explore the richness of Orthodox spirituality and to take stock of the distance covered since January 2006 and, more generally, since the Charta Oecumenica was signed, in 2001.
