THE HOLY SEE: GLENDON, GLOBALIZATION AND THE "SIGNS OF THE TIMES"

Globalization derives from "a complex concatenation of phenomena" which "defy the Church", in turn grappling with "new situations" originating from the "best works" of social sciences. It was declared by Mary Ann Glendon, president of the Papal Academy of Social Sciences, today, while she introduced the plenary assembly of the papal body to journalists, in the press room of the Vatican. The plenary assembly is opening tomorrow (until 1° May) on the subject": "Charity and justice in the relationships between peoples and nations". "Is collaboration in the fields of charity and justice in a globalized world possible?" is the question in the background of the initiative, originating from the Committee for globalization, operating within the Papal Academy of Social Sciences, which has scheduled a series of workshops by "gradual steps" on the subject, to be then collected in a final report.
