EUROPE: "ANTI-DISCRIMINATION TRUCK", A TOUR IN 19 STATES FOR THE EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES YEAR

Two events will revive the calendar of the European Year of Equal Opportunities for Everyone of 2007. The "Anti-discrimination truck" will leave the EU Parliament in Strasbourg for a tour that will stop, from here until November, in 33 cities of 19 countries to "inform the EU citizens of their rights to equal treatment and the advantages of diversity". The EU Commissioner Vladimír Špidla announced today that the Special Year will be the official partner of the Song Eurovision festival of 2007. "For the first time in twenty year, a EU-wide event will be partnered with this international festival” which since 1956 "has brought together people from all the continent". "The song festival – specifies Špidla – is the ideal stage to inform people about their rights. What better opportunity than a lively, continent-wide entertainment show that brings together all the cultures and shades of Europe?" During the week’s festival, that will take place from 5th to 12th May in Helsinki, "the European Year campaign will promote its messages from a stall in the Eurovision village. The stand will provide information about equality and diversity, will host some events and will inform two thousand European journalists".
