"Deeply saddened" at the news of the massacre of young people in the university campus of Virginia Tech, United States, the Pope sent today to the bishop of Richmond, mgr. Francio Xavier DiLorenzo, a telegram of condolences signed by cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Secretary of State. Benedict XVI ensures "his heart-felt prayer for the victims, their families and the whole school community" and asks God to "console all those who are mourning, ensure them that spiritual strength that triumphs over violence through the power of forgiveness, hope and reconciling love".
