” “”The politics of the G8 countries strengthens unfair structures all over the world”. This was reported by the Catholic organisations of the diocese of Limburg, Germany, which invite the public opinion to "follow carefully and critically" the G8 summit that will take place from June 6th to 8th in Ostseebad Heiligendamm. So, the limelight will be on world trade, debt policies, the exports of weapons and military intervention to protect access to energy resources. According to the German diocese, the invitation means supporting the African and Asian peoples that are trying to fight exploitation and assert their rights. This is why the Catholic associations of the diocese are urging the congregation to take part in the initiatives that have been deployed in the run-up to the G8 summit: “Erlassjahr.de” canvassing for writing off the debt of the poor countries, “8 minutes for justice”, i.e. 8 minutes’ pealing of bells in the parish churches when the G8 summit starts to invite people to reflect on how to contribute to a fairer world, the event held in Rostock on June 2nd, organised by Pax Christi, as well as the summit, also at Rostock from June 5th to 7th, organised by the Federation of German Young Catholics and many NGOs.
