"A worrisome fact aiming at striking the wish for peace of the Algerian people": it was the comment issued to SIR by Msgr. Henri Teissier, archbishop of Algiers, a short time ago. Thus Msgr. Teissier commented this morning’s attacks striking the Algerian capital. According to local hospital sources, those attacks caused 30 deaths and over 80 wounded. "One cannot understand how such facts can happen said the archbishop; – we are at a stage of the history of this country in which it is necessary to work to reconstruct, and this attack is worrisome, but the wish for peace of the Algerian people will be stronger than the small groups which chose violence. The Algerians want peace". According to Msgr. Teissier, "the answer to these violent gestures is working for the development of Algeria in the conviction that God does not call for violence but for peace". "After the difficulties happened around mid nineties, crises had been local for seven years. After many years, something happened in town for the first time. Now, we hope the population will not lose unity. As Church, we stand by the people, with the aim of contributing to brotherhood and to the construction of the country. We are ready to make our contribution to support the Algerian people".” ” ” “
