"The world recognised that the life of every man is a sacred, inviolable asset, which no man or institution can own". Reactions to the approval of the moratorium on death penalty all over the world by the UN General Assembly continue. Mario Mauro, deputy president of the European Parliament, expresses his satisfaction to SIR: "As an Italian, I am proud of the fact we have been among the first ones to start this battle, as early as 1994". "The State cannot take people’s lives" goes on Mauro , and there’s no justice when one responds to violence with as much violence". The deputy president of the EU Assembly adds: "Now, we all have to make one more effort", "to get to abolish" death penalty "in as many States as possible" and "continue to promote, since its conception, the sacred value of human life, which must never be conditional on the law of a State for the assertion of a right".
