"Human suffering cannot be forgotten, as happened at the summit in Lisbon between the European Union and Africa". On speaking before the European parliament for the awarding of the Sacharov prize 2007, Salih Osman recalled the suffering inflicted to the Darfur population. Then he rebuked Europe in relation to "its moral and political responsibilities before the current genocide" in the Sudanese region. Osman reconstructed the events of the last few years; he insisted on the fact that "no UNO resolution was followed", while "the people are going on dying owing to the violence inflicted by the Sudanese government". He explained "that the situation is going on getting worse; the children are dying, the women are raped, and rape is used as a war weapon. Millions of refugees, thrown out of their houses, are not receiving aids, and hope for the future is getting lost". Then, Osman asked for the sending of a military force made up of soldiers from EU countries and from the African Union. "The declarations by the European political leaders are not enough he added; resolutory actions are necessary to halt massacres. And then, it is necessary to recover justice, without which it is impossible to build up peace".
