"Assets, weaknesses and suggestions that have emerged from the European Ecumenical Assembly of Sibiu (Aee3 – www.eea3.org) for the future of the ecumenical walk in Europe": these are the contents of the letter dated December 5th which, three months after the end of the meeting, mgr. Aldo Giordano, secretary general of Ccee (Council of European Bishops Conferences), sends to the Catholic participants (cardinals, bishops, priests, religious and lay people). Reflections that had already been submitted at the Plenary Meeting of Ccee, which took place in Fatima in early October 2007. Assets include, writes mgr. Giordano, "the model of the pilgrimage-walk, the encounter with the Orthodox world; attention from the European institutions; Benedict XVI’s message". "Little scope for debate", the "critical discussion about the sentence on the respect of life" in the final document, the "debate about the identity of the Churches" are, instead, some of its criticalities. Suggestions for the future include: the importance of "extending faith and spirituality"; the responsibility attendant on the "great role" of Christianity "in today’s Europe"; "the Christians’ will to cooperate in some urgent areas (migration, peace, justice, etc.); Europe’s commitment to the world. Ccee and Kek are preparing a CD and a DVD with the contents of the Assembly.
