IRAQ: CONFERENCE, NAJIM (CHALDEAN PROCURATOR TO THE HOLY SEE), "SATISFACTION. FACTUAL SOLUTIONS, NOT EMPTY WORDS"

"At last, international politics awakes on Iraq. Now we wish the next summit may deliver factual, shared solutions that will be beneficial to Iraq and to its suffering people. The Iraqis must be respected, not oppressed. We need factual answers, not good but empty words". This is the satisfaction expressed by father Philip Najim, Chaldean Procurator to the Holy See, at the news of the international conference due to be held in Baghdad, promoted by the Iraqi government, on March 10th. The countries bordering on Iraq, the 5 permanent member countries of the UN Security Council, the Arab League, the UN, Egypt and Bahrain have been invited to the meeting. Syria and the USA have already accepted the invitation. "These are important participants – states the Chaldean Procurator to SIR –. Only through dialogue can we find a solution to the country’s problem, first and foremost stability. Iraq and its people must regain their own resources, their freedom must be respected. Therefore I expect the Baghdad conference to deliver factual results for the good of Iraq – concludes father Najim –. The Church has always promoted dialogue and encourages the summit. May it help lay the foundations of a new, free, reconciled and pacified Iraq".
