EUROPE: A MANIFESTO BY THE EUROPEAN CHRISTIANS (IXE) "TO RECOVER THE SENSE OF EUROPE’S CONSTRUCTION"

"Let’s recover the sense of Europe’s construction" is the title of the manifesto which is going to be shown in Brussels by IXE group (Christian initiative for Europe) on 28 February, a network of European "social Christians" born through inspiration by the Social Weeks in France and the German Catholic Committee (ZDK). Michel Camdessus, president of the French Social Weeks, and Thomas Jansen, representative of ZDK, will take part in the presentation. The Manifesto will be published by important European dailies in March, and will be submitted for subscription by the European citizens, before its delivery to the German presidency of EU, with a view to the Berlin Declaration. In the Manifesto, the promoters recall the original project of Europe, which "today is still a burning issue": "the reconciliation of the peoples, to build up a space of peace, rights, prosperity, solidarity; an open space in the service of the world". The text recalls the heritage of the European project, the challenge for a sympathetic and lasting growth, the worldwide responsibility of the Old Continent, and the need to look into the subject of European integration and unity.
