“In today’s world, it is easy to fall into relativism, and only a conscience enlightened by the truth agrees with true human dignity": it was said this morning in the Vatican by card. Javier Lozano Barragan, president of the Papal Council for the Pastoral of Health, in his introductory speech for the international congress: "The Christian conscience in support of the right to life”. With reference to John Paul II’s and Benedict XVI’s lessons, Barragan recalled that "conscience is someone, not something, that pursues the truth according to the order of a law established by the Maker”. The Church serves the individual conscience he added "because it helps prevent conscience following any moral wind". The cardinal warned about the fact that "the moral indifference that is so widespread today is a serious evil, which leads conscience to commit many mistakes". This is why, he added, "the Magisterium was wanted by God to enlighten consciences, as a living lesson of the Church in the name of God”.
