The Christian Churches and the Jewish Community in Hungary protest against a proposed amendment to the Criminal Code that would leave unpunished those who, for their personal use, take pornographic pictures of children aged 14 to 18 with the latter’s consent. "This amendment does not condemn corruption, paedophilia, but leaves perversion free”, comment the leaders of the Catholic, Lutheran and Calvinist Churches, along with the Federation of the Jewish Communities in Hungary. “This amendment they state in their release, relayed by the Catholic agency Magyar Kurir – opens wide the way to those who exploit children’s curiosity and gives freedom to those who, in a way that cannot be proven, could force them into agreeing to it”. “In no way is it part of the healthy sexual maturation of children to take pictures of them in pornographic poses”, underline the signatories of the release. “In addition, we believe the fact the products with contents that are openly and often obscenely of a sexual nature are accessible with barely any difficulty to everyone, and children, adults come across them unintentionally, at newsagents and on shop shelves, is worrying”. This is why the signatories insist that, "as in the other European countries, publications of a sexual nature and their distribution should be more restrained, so as to defend our children from the incautious encounter with such products”.
