ITALY: ECUMENICAL MEETING OF YOUNG PEOPLE TO "DARE PEACE IN THE NAME OF FAITH"

” “Two days of meetings, prayer, partying, talking, between young Catholics, Jews, Waldenses, Orthodox boys and girls, etc to "Dare peace in the name of faith": this is the name of the II national ecumenical meeting of young people, due to take place in Milan on 14th and 15th April, promoted by many churches and associations, including Acli (Italian Workers Christian Associations), Azione cattolica, Movimento dei focolari, Sae, etc. in cooperation with the Council of the Christian Churches of Milan and many other Christian groups. The experience – a previous meeting had taken place in Florence in January 2005 – is born of the intuition of some boys and girls of different Italian churches and associations: "We can be Christian only at the side of our brothers and sisters from all the Churches – they say –. Through this journey of sharing and talking, we also learn to listen to the demand for justice, peace and attention to the Creation that history makes us." The name of the meeting, which is to be presented in Rome tomorrow, refers to a sentence by the German Evangelical theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer, died in 1945, a victim of Nazism, who wished for an ecumenical council in which the Christian churches could testify, all together, peace against violence. ” ” ” “
