Tomorrow, 21st February, the Polish Bishops Conference will officially disclose the text of the letter in which Benedict XVI expresses his gratitude to mgr. Stanislaw Wielgus (who resigned in early January from his post as archbishop of Warsaw on allegations of collaboration with the communist security services) for his humble attitude. The news was relayed today to the members of the Permanent Council of the Polish Bishops Conference (Kep), gathered with the special participation of the primate of Poland, card. Jozef Glemp, and the archbishop of Cracow, card. Stanislaw Dziwisz, the apostolic nuncio to Warsaw, mgr. Jozef Kowalczyk. The members of the Permanent Council of Kep, on the occasion of Ash Wednesday that this year will be celebrated with a special day of prayer and penance by all of the Polish priests, have made an appeal for reconciliation and trust between priests and devotees, as wished for by the Pope last Sunday. The spokesman of the Polish Bishops Conference, father Jozef Kloch, announced that every diocese will pray for "the forgiveness of today’s Polish Church and for future goodwill" under the protection of "God’s Mercy".
