“One cannot think of a Europe moving at two different speeds. All the member states should make progress together and have a common awareness of the European values, the same values as those transmitted by Saints Cyril and Methodius". This was said last night by card. Franc Rodè, prefect of the Congregation for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life, on the occasion of the feast of the two brother saints, who evangelised the Slavic peoples by translating the Gospel in Cyrillic characters too. During Mass at the Basilica of Saint Clement, in the presence of the Slavic communities of Rome, the cardinal mentioned that "the Western Europe of Saint Benedict and the Eastern Europe of Saints Cyril and Methodius own a common spiritual heritage, which is in our hands and must be present today in the foundations of European societies, because that is the only way for united Europe to have a sure future”. This year, the feast was organised by the Slovenians, in particular by the Papal College of Slovenia. The Bulgarian Orthodox monk, father Kliment Bobchev, delegate for the Bulgarian Orthodox community to Rome, was present as well.
