BENEDICT XVI: TO THE NEW COLOMBIAN AMBASSADOR, "KEEP ENDEAVOURING FOR GOODWILL" (2)

In addition, there are still "other problems in society, that jeopardise people’s dignity, the unity of the family, a fair economic development and an appropriate quality of life". Considering these difficulties, the Pope invited to "keep endeavouring to achieve goodwill and the harmonious growth of the country". These ambitions "can be fully achieved insofar as God is considered the focus of life and of human history". After mentioning the importance of the work carried out by the Catholic Church for the reconciliation of the nation, for peace and justice, the Pope expressed his concern "for the laws about some very delicate issues, such as the transmission and defence of life, the identity of the family and the respect of marriage". On these issues, he went on, "in the light of the natural reason and the moral and spiritual principles of the Gospel, the Catholic Church – went on the Holy Father – will keep endlessly proclaiming the greatness of human dignity". According to the Pope, "it is necessary to make appeal to the responsibility of the lay people who are in charge of laying down the law, who are in charge of justice or are members of the government, so that the laws will always express the principles and values that agree with the natural law and promote the true common good".
