” “The Presidency of the Polish Bishops Conference, following mgr. Stanis³aw Wielgus’ resignation from the office of archbishop of Warsaw, which he handed in yesterday, issued a release in which they ask "all congregation to try to accept this difficult experience in a spirit of faith and to include the Church of Poland in their prayers". "Today, the Polish Church it reads must humbly look into its past, present and future. Mgr. Wielgus voluntarily handed in his resignation from the office he had been entrusted with because of the serious charges brought against him. His decision to resign, which is evidence of his concern for the good of the Church, is a credit to him. Likewise, the decision taken by the Holy Father Benedict XVI, of accepting such resignation, is evidence of his concern for the quiet fulfilment of the pastoral work in Poland". The release was signed by the president of the Polish Bishops Conference, mgr. Józef Michalik, by its deputy president, mgr. Stanis³aw G¹decki, and by its secretary general, mgr. Piotr Libera. The Polish Bishops Conference also asked the media to "respect the decision taken by archbishop Wielgus and not to blow up facts which are not true" (to be continued)” “
