BENEDICT XVI: TO THE SLOVAKIAN BISHOPS, A "SYSTEMATIC ATTACK AGAINST MARRIAGE AND THE FAMILY" IS UNDER WAY

Then, Benedict XVI highlighted the efforts made "into developing the Plan for the pastoral and the evangelisation of the Catholic Church in Slovakia for the period 2007-2013", which will support the religious journey of the country, "in the run-up to 2013, the year in which you will celebrate the 1150th anniversary of the beginning of the mission of the Saints Cyril and Methodius in your lands". Among the most significant contents, he mentioned the youth pastoral and the presence of a high number of Catholic schools, the family pastoral and the "destabilising factor" of the "systematic attack against marriage and the family that is being launched by a certain culture and by the mass media". As to callings, he recalled that "Slovakia is a country, which, after 1990, saw the callings to priesthood and to dedicated life thrive luxuriantly. Five more seminars have been added over these years to the only Seminar that had remained open during the dictatorship – he said –, and today nearly all parishes have their own pastor", then he noticed that, "however, as it was to be expected, such springtime could not last long, and so every Christian community is now invited to give priority to a careful vocational pastoral".
