SIR EUROPE: INTERPARLIAMENTARY MEETING IN BRUSSELS

"The future of the Constitutional Treaty, the roles of the European Parliament and of the national ones in the integration process, and climate change": those are the three subjects scheduled for the third interparliamentary meeting taking place at the headquarters of the European Parliament in Brussels on 11 and 12 June. The title of the initiative, promoted by President Hans-Gert Poettering and the German Bundestag is "Together… but how?". 60 members of the European Parliament will take part in it, together with 6 MPs or senators for each of the 27 member States, as well as the representatives of the candidate states. Among the speakers, there will be Poettering himself, the president of the Commission, José Manuel Barroso, the German Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and the Italian Home Secretary, Giuliano Amato, former vice president of the Convention drawing up the EU Constitution. Among the dates of the EU Parliament for the next week, there will be the meeting of the Economic and Monetary Commission with the president of the Central Bank of Frankfurt, Jean-Claude Trichet. After the increase in the interest rates (4%), the subjects will be the cost of money and the levels of inflation in Europe, as well as the next entries of Malta and Cyprus into the euro zone.
