SIR EUROPE: IRELAND, PRESIDENT MCALEESE RECALLS FATHER GANNI, KILLED IN MOSUL

"It is necessary to ponder over the series of events which pushed so many Iraqi Christian communities to the limit, threatening their survival". The warning was by the president of Ireland, Mary McAleese. She sent a message during the mass for the soul of Father Ragheed Ganni, the Chaldean priest killed with three subdeacons in Mosul, last June 3rd. The mass was celebrated in Rome yesterday, at the Irish Papal College where the Iraqi priest had studied several years, and where he got to know the current Irish president. "This death – it is written in the text received by SIR – is a challenge for us, asking us to work for reconciliation between faiths, and to create a world where every human being will be respected. The reconciliation process started in Ireland a few weeks ago, in a promising way. It must be a strong point in the hope for the tormented Iraqi land".
