"A senseless murder": with these words, Benedict XVI defined the death of father Ragheed Ganni and three subdeacons in Iraq yesterday. In a telegram of condolence sent in his name by the secretary of state Tarcisio Bertone to the Bishop of Mosul of the Chaldeians, Paul Faraj Rahho, and published today by the Vatican newsroom, the Pope said he is "deeply grieved" and sympathises with the "Christian community of Mosul" and prays that this "sacrifice may inspire in the hearts of all men and women of good will a fresh determination to reject the ways of hatred and violence" and to "join forces for reconciliation, justice and peace in Iraq".
