G8: CARITAS INTERNATIONALIS, A BANNER AGAINST POVERTY IN SAINT PETER’S TOMORROW

” “A banner with the slogan "Make Aid Work" in front of Saint Peter’s Basilica to "give a message" to the G8 Summit, due to open on Wednesday 6th June in Heiligendamm, Germany (until 8th June), that "it may fulfil the obligations undertaken in the sphere of aids". It will be raised tomorrow at 01.00 pm by Caritas Internationalis, which is in Rome these days with over 300 delegates from 160 Caritas agencies working in 200 countries and regions of the world, gathered in the Vatican for their XVIII General Assembly, until June 9th. It was announced to the press, during the opening press conference for the Assembly, by Denis Viénot, president of Caritas Internationalis. The "Make Aid Work" campaigns asks the rulers of the United States, Japan, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada and Russia, the participants in the forthcoming G8, to "start fulfilling the obligations undertaken in the sphere of aids"; two years ago, during the G8 in Gleneagles, Scotland, these countries had pledged to increase aids to the developing countries by 50 million US dollars by 2010.
