BENEDICT XVI: TO THE AMBASSADOR OF ESTONIA, "A COUNTRY’S HEALTH IS RELATED TO THE HEALTH OF ITS FAMILIES"

"Estonia, with its centuries-old history, has a lot to offer to the Europe of tomorrow, because of its fairly substantial realisation of the value of freedom and the sacrifices it entails". It was recalled by Benedict XVI, as he met today the ambassador of Estonia to the Holy See, Juri Seilenthal, for the submission of his credentials. The Pope recalled "the big revolution" of Eastern Europe at the end of last century, which showed "the fervent, inbred desire of freedom that was present in the people and in the populations, the inseparability of true freedom from the quest for the truth, the respect of the transcendent dignity of every human being". According to the Pontiff, these are values to be testified and "that will help Europe recognise its foundations, which are imbued with the Christian message". "The Church too – recalled Benedict XVI – is committed to the life of the nation, in particular the promotion of the holiness of marriage, the mission of the family and the raising of the children. The health of every society – he concluded – is related to the health of its families". Hence his wish for farsighted and wise family policies that will help revive Estonia".
