” ” Holidays as "favourable period for environmental education". It is the suggestion of the archbishop of Valencia, Msgr. Agustín García-Gasco. In a letter for summer, Msgr. García-Gasco wrote that "summer rest allows us to rediscover also a nice garden called Creation, which God put in our hands, for us to protect it, for us to take care of it accurately". Therefore, "environment education, so necessary in current times, must start within families in an effective way, as soon as fathers and mothers let their children discover the beauty of nature as gift of God, helping them to understand everyone’s responsibility to take care of it". "Let holiday time be time for being closer to our elderly people, giving them the affection which is the expression of our gratitude for all they did for us and for our society": it was the proposal by the bishop of Terrassa, Msgr. Josep Àngel Sáiz, in his recent pastoral letter. The bishop denounced increase in elderly people ill treatments within our society, and underlined the fact that, for Christianity, "one of the tasks which are necessary for social regeneration and prevention of domestic violence" is "redefining values and strengthening activities which elderly people may carry out".
