SIR EUROPE: FLOODS IN THE SOUTH OF GREAT BRITAIN, PRIESTS IN THE FRONT LINE TO HELP EVACUEES (2)

Another account comes from Father Richard Dwyer, parish priest of the Church of St. Joseph, in Tewkesbury. "The spirit of the community is really positive. The people helping each other are really a lot, and for me, this is an example of how the Holy Spirit is working. I received offers of help even from farthest places. For instance, a Catholic family was ready to host the people hit by floods for a period of vacation". The bishops in the area also offer the people help and prayers. The archbishop of Birmingham, Msgr. Vincent Nichols, thus writes in a note: "I am in touch with each one of the parishes of the archdiocese which were hit by floods to a greater extent. The priests and the parish communities are doing anything possible to help the people in the worst conditions". And the bishop of Clifton, Declan Lang, added: "All the people who are relentlessly working to help the evacuees are also in my prayers. They are distributing drinkable water and putting the electricity system back in operation". "Our local churches – says the Anglican bishop of Oxford, Reverend John Pritchard – are there to help. We have people of ours in every corner in the streets to offer practical help, temporary shelters, food, clothes and hot beverages".
