SIR EUROPE: BULGARIAN NURSES, VAN DER LINDEN (COE) "INNOCENT VICTIMS"

"Relieved". René Van Der Linden, president of the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe said to be relieved after the decision by the High Court of Justice of Libya to change the death penalty into life imprisonment for the Palestinian physician and the Bulgarian nurses who, according to the Court, were guilty of infecting about 400 children with HIV virus. However, Van Der Linden did not hesitate to call the decision "shameful", because, he declared, "these people are innocent, victims of a political affair, and they should have been released long ago. This decision does not cancel the terrible injustice suffered by innocent doctors". "It’s time – he added – the Libyan authorities ascribed errors to their health policy to avoid any repetition of the humanitarian tragedy hitting the children and their families".
