"Protecting children against violence and sexual exploitation, and the defence of their rights, are one of the great priorities of mine and of the whole European Commission". The EU Commission upholds today’s International Day of Disappeared Children, which started being celebrated three years ago. The vice president of the Executive, Franco Frattini, in charge of justice, freedom and security, stated: "Today, within the meeting of the home secretaries and justice ministers of G8, taking place in Munich, I’m discussing the means to fight sexual violence against children, and in particular, the penal actions to be started against the sexual crimes committed abroad, as well as the intensification of international efforts to fight children pornography". The Commission also asked the ministers of the eight most developed countries a symbolic gesture, that is, carrying along a flower, a "forget-me-not", to be precise, "as sign of solidarity with the disappeared children and with their families, and as emblem of their commitment to defend the rights of the children, in defence of whom a global approach is really necessary".
