BENEDICT XVI: TRIP TO BRAZIL, "THE CATHOLIC IDENTITY IS THE ANSWER TO GLOBALISATION"

"In the era of globalisation", the "Catholic identity" is "the most appropriate answer, provided it is brought about by a serious spiritual training and by the principle of the social doctrine of the Church". This was said by the Pope, as he went over, during today’s general audience, his apostolic journey to Brazil, "a pilgrimage that had its highlight at the Sanctuary of the Madonna Aparecida, Brazil’s main patron saint". "My revered predecessors Paul VI and John Paul II havd always had at heart the issue of the relationship between faith and culture – recalled Benedict XVI –. I wanted to resume it by confirming the Church that is in Latin America and in the Caribbean in the path of a faith that had made and makes itself lived history, people’s mercy, art, in dialogue with the rich pre-Columbian traditions and then with the multiple influences from Europe and other continents" (continued).
