The European Parliament "is called to approve the new financial deed, which, with 2.1 billion euros over seven years, will have to boost the implementation of the sixth EU program on environment and support measures and plans with European added value in the member states". Marie Anne Isler Béguin, French MEP, is the author of the report that will be submitted to the EU Parliament in Strasbourg at the next plenary meeting next week, in order to establish "Life+", a financial entry endowed with 300 million euros a year for environmental policies. The meeting of the 27 member states will be convened from May 21st to 24th in the Alsatian city to address several subjects, including the funding of trans-European networks, the regulations on international roaming, the Commission’s proposal to increase the minimum excise duty rates on beer and alcoholic drinks. In addition, the EU Parliament will devote two sessions to the future of the European Union, inviting the Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi and the Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende "to make their contribution" to the talks, "partly in the light writes a note from the Assembly of the adoption of the Berlin Declaration".
