COUNCIL OF EUROPE: MAY 19TH, THE NIGHT OF MUSEUMS. 2000 OPEN IN 39 COUNTRIES

The third "Night of Museums" is taking place on Saturday, May 19th. Over two thousand museums in 39 countries are opening their doors from sunset to one o’clock in the morning. They will offer visitors shows, expositions, theatre and music. The initiative is under the patronage of the Council of Europe (COE), which in this way intends to encourage young people to appreciate the art and culture shown by museums. The involved cities are a lot: Baku, Brussels, London, Paris, Strasbourg, Zagreb, Bratislava, Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon, Venice, Warsaw, Cracow, Bucharest, Tallinn and son on. The Council of Europe, it is written in a note, "is happy to foster this event, aiming at attracting the largest possible number of visitors to museums". According to the secretary general of the COE, Terry Davis, "culture is meant for everybody. Prolongation of opening hours, free entry and an interesting programme are excellent means to achieve a larger and larger public, especially the young public, who will thus be able to discover a world of knowledge and cultural heritage".
