"For those who went through the last four decades of the Irish history, the events of May 8th border on the unbelievable"; at last "an epic change has taken place in the thinking and political strategy of the Northern Irish parties". With these words, Jim Cassin (Commission for Education of the Irish Bishops Conference), comments, in a note that will be online from tonight (old.agensir.it), the launch, on May 8th in Belfast, of the joint government of delegates of the two communities, the Protestant and the Catholic one. "Many highlights Cassin ask whether this accord and this new beginning will work. There’s no reason they shouldn’t. The new government has the blessing and the support of the main parties in Stormont, the Irish and British governments, the European institutions and the US Administration. It is also a model of how divided societies across the world can overcome their differences". "Vital", according to Cassin, was the mediation and support to peace that have been given all through this time by the Christian Churches, especially the Catholic Church in Ireland.
