"Purity and honesty of life" on one side, and "faith and science" in the Scriptures. These are the two pillars of the "hierarchy of holiness" on "top" of which "is martyrdom". It was said by the Pope, who focussed today’s general catechesis on the figure of Origen (as he had done on April 25th), quoting among other things one of his lessons on "the common priesthood of all faithful", which "concerns all of us". "Priesthood is given to all believers", recalled Benedict XVI, who highlighted that Saint Paul speaks of the believers as a "superior, regal, priestly stock". "On one side said the Pope purity and honesty of life; on the other side, faith and science in the Scriptures are the prerequisites to be universal priests". "An upright conduct of life said the Pope and the reception and study of the Word are a veritable hierarchy of holiness for the common priesthood of the Christians, on top of which is martyrdom". This "never-exhausted walk of perfection concerns us concluded Benedict XVI for the eyes of the heart to be fixed on the contemplation of the wisdom and truth that is Jesus Christ". Hence his invitation to "keep the eyes of our heart fixed on Jesus", to be "on the right way", "despite the current situation".
