BENEDICT XVI AT THE FORUM OF THE YOUNG, BETWEEN "NEW HOPES" AND "MARGINALIZATION AND EXPLOITATION"

"The ultimate reference of any human activity can only be Man, whom God created in his own image. As a matter of fact, a thorough analysis of the situation leads us to notice that work is part of God’s project for man; working is participating in His creating and redeeming activity. Therefore, every human activity should be an opportunity for individuals and society to grow, a development of personal talents, whose values have to be increased, and which must be used in the service of common good, through a spirit of justice and solidarity". Those words were spoken by Benedict XVI, and were part of the message – made known by the Vatican Press Room today – sent to the IX International Forum of the Young, taking place in Rocca di Papa, about the subject "Witnesses of Christ in the Work World". The Pope tackled the changes happened in the last few years, "which transformed the structure and the conditions of the work market radically". "On the one hand, the achieved progresses – wrote Benedict XVI – aroused new hopes in the young, but on the other hand, they often created worrisome kinds of marginalization and exploitation affecting the young, with growing situations of personal disease".
