"The European integration process towards fairer and fairer forms of fruitful unity is one of the areas in which the innovating passion of the Christians is called to reckon with contemporary history to promote peace, justice and solidarity between the peoples of this unique continent, full of contents, and an exemplary, encouraging contribution to a new world order". It was said yesterday morning by card. Attilio Nicora, president of Apsa (Administration of the Heritage of the Apostolic See), at Mass to mark the end of the Congress "Values and prospects for the Europe of tomorrow. The 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome", promoted by Comece (Commission of the EU Bishops Conferences) from March 23rd to 25th in Rome. It is, explained the cardinal, a "lofty feat that one must always start all over again". Then, card. Nicora mentioned the relevance of the words spoken by Giovanni Battista Montini, who would become Paul VI, who, as early as 1958, one year after the Treaties of Rome, warned about a "fragile" union: "The day the flow of thought, blood and friendship of a common culture will melt the different European peoples together stated Montini , a spiritual unity will be accomplished. We need one soul across Europe for its unity to be really strong, consistent, responsible and beneficial". (to be continued)
