” “"The Church must root its theological analysis in the spheres of politics and culture as well": it was said this morning by mgr. Noël Treanor, secretary general of Comece (Commission of the EU Bishops Conference), as he presented in Rome the Report of the Committee of the Sages to Comece, "A Europe of values. The ethical dimension of the European Union", and the congress "Values and prospects for the Europe of tomorrow. The 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome", that Comece promotes in the capital from tomorrow to the 25th March. For this reason, explained Treanor, in the run-up to the congress, "over the laST few months, Comece established a Committee of the Sages (Catholics from the political and cultural community) whom he entrusted with drawing up the aforesaid document on values. The press conference has been attended by the president of Comece, mgr. Adrianus van Luyn, and Mario Monti, ex MEP and member of the aforesaid Committee. With reference to the latter, mgr. Treanor addeD: "The EU needs the involvement of Christians as citizens and at the same time it deserves it.
