THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF EUROPE: MGR. VAN LUYN (COMECE), "MAKING THE YOUNG AWARE OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES ABOUT THE VIEW OF MAN THAT WE WANT TO HAVE IN FUTURE"

” “"According to Comece (Commission of the EU Bishops Conferences), the family is a matter of fundamental importance, about which there is consistent dialogue with the European institutions, but which the national Bishops Conferences monitor and exchange opinions about as well". This was said in Rome this morning by mgr. Adrianus van Luyn, president of Comece, in answering a journalist’s question during the press conference for the presentation of the congress "Values and prospects for the Europe of tomorrow. The 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome", promoted by Comece in Rome from 23rd to 25th March. Obviously, "preferential dialogue is with the Catholics that are members of the European institutions, but it is not exclusive". Mgr. van Luyn also noted that it is important that "intensive dialogue should exist between politicians and men of Church, between Christians and non-Christians, to develop a hierarchy of values", as well as to see "how the non-negotiable values must be adapted to this day and age, bearing in mind the signs of the time". Then, the president of Comece highlighted that "the European citizens are so used to the advantages offered by the European Union that they have forgotten that the origin of those advantages lies in the European Union itself; actually they only see the interference of the European Union in the domestic affairs of their nations".
