“In the intimate of his conscience, man finds a law which he himself did not make, but which he must follow. The voice of that law is constantly asking him to love and do good, rejecting evil, if necessary. It is clearly talking to the ears of the heart": this quotation of "Gaudium et Spes" (no. 16) was mentioned in the opening of the Final Declaration, made known today by the Vatican Press Room, after the works of the XIII General Assembly of the Pontifical Academy for Life taking place on 23 and 24 February, on the subject: "The Christian conscience upholding the right to life". Furthermore, the Declaration still with the words of Gaudium et Spes recalled that "In fact, man has a law written by God inside his heart; following it is the very dignity of man, and according to it he will be judged". Therefore, it is further written in the note, "by acting in faithful obedience to the judgement of one’s moral conscience, which is looking for good and constantly feeding on the known truth, every person expresses and accomplishes his human dignity in depth, building himself and the whole community through his own free and conscious choices".
