” “"Offering to the pastors and the faithful a safe criterion, rooted in the doctrine of the Church, to properly judge issues that are extremely relevant, both theologically and pastorally". This is the purpose of the Notification on the works of father Jon Sobrino, announced today by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The basic assumption of the Jesuit father, who recalls the positions of the "theology of liberation", is that "the Church of the poor" is "the ecclesial place of Christology and offers fundamental guidance to it". In saying so, warns the Holy See, "the author forgets that the apostolic faith, transmitted by the Church to all generations, is the only valid ecclesial place for Christology and more generally for theology". In doing this, father Sobrino "tends to diminish the regulatory value of the statements of the New Testament and of the great Councils of the ancient Church", committing "methodological mistakes" that "lead to conclusions that are not consistent with the faith of the Church on some crucial points, such as the divinity of Jesus Christ, the Incarnation of the Son of God, the relation of Jesus with the Kingdom of God, His self-conscience and the salvific value of His death".
