Resolute condemnation by the secretary General of the Council of Europe, Terry Davis, of the attack to a Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo: "I firmly condemn the profanation of the Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist in Pec, Kosovo stated Davis. – The Serbian Orthodox Church, damaged during the conflict in March 2004, had been refurbished last year, within a project carried out under the supervision of the Council of Europe. Our Organization took part in the refurbishment works since the damaged monuments are part of our common European heritage. The works had been executed by craftsmen belonging to all the ethnical communities in Kosovo. This initiative also allowed us to strengthen the sense of a common heritage, as well as reconciliation perspectives". "Those who make use of violence threaten the future of every human being in Kosovo. The future is much more than a statute; it depends on the quality of life, not on boundary kilometres. If the people of Kosovo do not find, within themselves, the necessary power to get rid of the threat of violence and ethnical hate concluded the Secretary of the Council of Europe, – Kosovo will become a prison for the majority of the population, and for the minorities, too, independently of the decision by the Security Council of the United Nations".
