"The springtime European Council will place emphasis on the Lisbon strategy for growth and employment"; in addition it will address the "legislating better" project (for the streamlining of bureaucracy and laws) and "an integrated energy policy". The EU presidency on duty is beginning to show its hand, in the run-up to the next EU events, such as the summit of the heads of state and government due in Brussels on 8th and 9th March. A release from the German presidency states that the leaders of the 27 member states "will develop an action plan for a EU energy policy and will adopt ambitious plans, that will give prominence to the role of the precursors of Europe in the protection of the climate". In addition, the latest details of the agenda of the informal meeting of 24th and 25th March in Berlin, to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the EEC and the content of the Declaration of the Future of Europe, that will be disclosed on that occasion, are likely to be addressed as well. The Berlin schedule, which is being outlined, leaves few hours for the leaders’ discussions, while more space is given to the celebratory ceremonies: on Saturday 24th a concert of the Berlin Philharmonic and an official dinner; on Sunday 25th a ceremony at the History Museum, a business lunch and a final press conference to disclose the Declaration.
